WELCOME TO F.D ROOSEVELT GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL M.C MACHUMI

 HEAD OF SCHOOL

FROM THE HEAD'S DESK.

“When our school was founded in 1950, it was decided to name it after President Franklin Delano Roosevelt who was one of the most illustrious sons of the United States of America”, wrote the 1989 editor of the Roosevelt magazine. The school has carried this name up to this day. The element of hardwork is at issue here.

My predecessors, Miss Patson, the first Headmistress, Miss Robinson, who served the school for twenty three years and Mrs M. Zvoma to you all, the school is indebted. Your hardworking service could not but give rise to the success story of this learning Institution, I thank you all.

The school tirelessly worked to fulfill its vision “To help the girl-child realize her potential and appreciate her value in the sustainable development of our nation”, hence the success story. With the motto “Qui plantavit curabit” it means “You reap what you sow”, the school has been awarded certificates and trophies which have attracted and gave confidence to many parents throughout Harare, to bring their daughters to us here at F.D Roosevelt Girls High School.

The school emphasizes hard work, good character and, above all, tries to inculcate some Christian values to the students. This, the school tries to impart through well-organized assemblies where students take turns to lead on a theme of their choice. The school curriculum follows the modern trends of thinking, as provided by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education. A wide range of co-curricular activities are also offered at the school. The grounds staff, all do have areas to concentrate on allocated to them throughout the school, making the school environs neat and conducive to a learning atmosphere.

A success story has been told about Roosevelt in the academic field. The aim being to always reap good results by obtaining a 100% pass rate. The 2011 A’ level students made us proud by obtaining a 100% pass rate. O’ level student have improved from 51, 87% to 63, 56% in the O’ level 2015 examinations despite the school accommodating above 30 units from the neighboring schools. It will always be our aim to achieve a high pass rate than the previous years as the school will always aim for the best results ever. This is through hardwork!

On co-curricular activities the school has done well to represent the District at Provincial level and the Province at National level in the following disciplines; Volleyball, Basketball, Softball, Public Speaking, Debate, SEITT, and Rugby. Trophies and related awards have been won. Again that is indeed hardwork in evidence.

My sincere gratitude goes to the staff, both teaching and non-teaching, the S.D.C, the parents and the students who have worked tirelessly to make Roosevelt what it is today. May the Almighty continue to grant us all wisdom to help shape up the future of our Nation, through the students enrolled at this Institution.

Hardwork indeed pays off “Qui plantavit curabit”
